How many times can you do the same “What’s one thing that’s interesting about you?” icebreaker? Well fear no more because we’re throwing that out and replacing it with a more interactive, engaging, and out of the box intro – your theme song! It’s super simple, and you can customize it and a thousand ways to meet your specific needs.
How to use or facilitate:
- Give everyone a post-it and a sharpie.
- Set a timer for 2 minutes.
- Ask the group – “If you have to choose any song to be your personal theme song what would it be? What is the soundtrack to your life that signifies who you would want people to remember you as?” Try to find a song that matches not only your energy, but also the message you want to communicate about yourself.
- Once everyone has their own – do a shareout. And you can do this in many ways! You can ask the group to simply read off their song and explain. You can ask them to play the song out loud. Or, even better, tee it up as an entrance song. Have each participant hand in their post-it notes to you with their name written on top, and queue up a quick playlist. Ask each participant to leave the room one at a time and make their grand entrance back into the room while playing their song upon arrival. They can dance, sing, whatever they like!
The takeaway
The old meet n’ greet doesn’t have to be awkward, tedious, or boring. Spice it up with a theme song! Not only will you get a personal view into each participant’s likes and personality traits, but you might just see them in a way you’ve never seen before. Didn’t know your boss likes Bachata? Well now you do! And you might even get the chance to see them do it 🙂
